Remix Wednesday: I Am Not A Robot

I have to confess; I'm not a huge fan of Marina and the Diamonds. Now, the Welsh/Greek songstress is a stunner, but her voice and twee indie pop sound leave me cold. Plus, I don't like it when solo acts called themselves 'Something and the the Somethings'- really, it's just you up there, isn't it? A matter of personal taste, I suppose.
Yet, even I absolutely love Clock Opera's remix of 'I Am Not a Robot'. Clock Opera's unique sound incorporates ‘found sounds’ – now, I what you’re thinking. You’re suddenly conjuring up images of people clanging pans together and using dustbins as drums. Well, you couldn’t be more wrong- the found sounds used by the Clock Opera guys weave seamlessly into their rich tapestry of sound, making a completely unique audio experience, without alienating the listener.
Check it out- trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Remix Wednesday: Dance or Die

Time for a mid-week pick me up, and a floor-filler to boot. I would like to take a minute to introduce you to my favourite crunk-rock Christian group, Family Force 5- well, they're the only crunk-rock Christian group I listen to, but well, they're awesome. They combine everything I love about irresistibly catchy and unabashedly cliché dance tunes with the rough-edged vocals you're more likely to find in a punk-rock band.

Add to this mix The Secret Handshake- a man who claims to be 'really influenced by Family Matters and Step By Step and the Ninja Turtles and Len and Spacehog and awesome ‘90s radio music'. What you end up with is something a little cheesy, a little rad, and more than a little likely to put a smile on your face. Enjoy!

Remix Wednesday: Heads Will Roll

It's that time of the week again, kids- time to shake of those mid-week blues with a little slice of remixed goodness, with love from me to you.
This week's song comes courtesy of A-Trak and Yeah Yeah Yeahs (a band I've previously expressed alot of love for). The song in question, 'Head Will Roll', was pretty upbeat and dance-y number before A-Trak got his mits on it, but it is impossible to resist the beat of this song- as soon as it gets going, you'll be dancing around your room like a crazy person before you know it.

Remix Wednesday: You've Got the Love

This week, I bring you an offering from two acts I've already expressed some love for on the blog- Florence and the Machine, and The XX. Both of them have got consistently high reviews- even if one blogger *ahem, me* thought that the former's album was a wee bit too polished, the original 'You've Got the Love' was certainly a gem. Of course, the currently omnipresent XX have taken it, messed it up a wee bit, and come out with something pretty damn good.
Check it out, kids:

Remix Wednesday: Basic Space

It's remix time, bitches! Chica-chica-yeah!
This week's offering at the altar of funk comes courtesy of a little-known unsigned UK act called Astronomer. Little may be know of these shadowy figures, but what we can glean is that they are very, very good at remixes. They've reworked everything from Micachu to Metronomy- but my personal favorite has to be their version of 'Basic Space' by The XX.
Now, The XX are bloody everywhere at the moment- I completely appear to have missed to bandwagon on this one. However, I managed to catch them on late-night Reading coverage, and I think I'm becoming hooked to their lazy, dream-pop sound. Take a listen for yourselves below:

Remix Wednesday: She Wolf

This week's remix comes courtesy of 'my-hips don't-lie' Shakira, and Calvin 'that-bloke-what-was-born-in-the-80's' Harris. 'She Wolf', Shakira's latest wacky dance offering, has been all jazzed up by Harris, and it's sounding pretty awesome. I must admit, I'm not a huge Calvin Harris fan (Goldie Lookin' Chain calling him a wanker at V Festival got a good cheer as well), but this is pretty damn good.
Also, a Fun Fact for you: Shakira has won 10 Grammys. Who knew?
Get your dancing shoes on, and check out 'She Wolf' below:

Remix Wednesday: New in Town to Animal

Remix Wednesday is another feature with a fairly telling name, because:
1. It features remixes, and;
2. It's on a Wednesday
Fool-proof, no?

Remix 1- New in Town (Golden Filter Remix)- Little BootsThink 'New in Town' has been overplayed? Think again. This remix, in all of its piano-playing, hand-clapping, echo-y, has given a new lease of life to a song that has had considerable airtime over the past few months. The kind of song that will have even the most retiring wallflower on the dancefloor, shakin' their ass.

Remix 2- Hearts on Fire (Viking Remix)- Cut CopyA jangly, happy, electronic feast for your ears, this remix of 'Hearts on Fire' by Melbourne-based Cut Copy still retains its happy-go-lucky, indie sound in this awesome remix.

Remix 3- Animal (Peter Bjorn and John Remix)- Miike SnowWhat do you get when you blend the musical talents of Peter Bjorn and John with Miike Snow? One Hell of a tune, of course. You may have noticed I quite like my remixes with a good beat to 'em- the wonderful, echoing beat to this one certainly ticks all the boxes.
